When you download and use a free Joomla extension, you may only see a simple package file. But behind that file lies extensive time, effort, research, testing, and intellectual investment.

I develop Joomla extensions and provide them completely free for the benefit of the community. Every extension is thoroughly tested before being published on the Joomla Extension Directory. In addition, each extension has a live demo available on my website so users can verify its functionality before installing it.

However, there is something that genuinely saddens me.

Although many people use these extensions, only a very small number leave reviews. Even more discouraging is that among the few reviews received, negative reviews are significant. In most cases, there is no explanation — only a brief comment such as “not working.”

Before concluding that an extension is “not working,” several factors should be considered:

👉 Joomla version compatibility

👉 Conflicts with other extensions

👉 Template-related issues

👉 Caching problems

In most situations, these issues can be resolved through communication and proper troubleshooting. Unfortunately, those who left negative reviews did not feel the need to contact me before posting them.

For example, JO Visitor Counter has already surpassed 1,250 downloads. Yet it has received only two reviews — one of which is negative.

For a free extension, even a short and honest review can be a powerful source of motivation for a developer.

Every Joomla extension requires planning, development, testing, documentation, and ongoing maintenance. Compatibility updates, server environments, security checks, and performance improvements all demand continuous effort. While my extensions are provided completely free, maintaining and improving them requires real time and resources.

Sustainability is the challenge.

Independent developers cover hosting, testing environments, tools, and update cycles without guaranteed income. A small donation helps offset these costs and ensures that development can continue without introducing paywalls or feature restrictions.
